About Artist
Alberto Rey is an painter, ceramicist, videographer, writer, fly fishing guide, founder/director of a youth fly fishing program and a retired SUNY Distinguished Professor. Over the decades, his work has investigated a wide range of topics related to his immigration to the United States as a refugee from Cuba and to the issues related to the environment. His artwork is in the permanent collections of over 20 museums and he has had over 220 exhibitions. He has also written and illustrated three books and cowrote three other publications about environmental issues (https://www.canadawaypress.com/).

Some of these publications include: - Life Streams: Alberto Rey’s Cuban and American Art - SUNY Press (2014) This exhibition publication examines Alberto's life and and art and his investigation into the history of the Scajaquada Creek in Buffalo, NY.
- Complexities of Water: Biological Regionalism, Bagmati River, Kathmandu Valley, Nepal (2016) This exhibition publication investigates the cultural importance of the holiest river in Nepal, the causes of its pollution, and the future of the river and nearby communities.
- Extinct Birds Project (2018) This exhibition publication examines the causes for the extinction of seventeen bird species, the lives of the collector’s, methods used for collecting these species and the politics and economics of classifying species as endangered or extinct.
- Lost Beauty: Icebergs (2021) This publication documents the project history, the process of creating the paintings, the designer’s thought process in the layout of the publication and the dramatic effects of climate change on the Breiđamerkurjökull glacier and underrepresented communities across the world.
- Lost Beauty II: The Art of Museum Stories (2021) This exhibition publication looks at the history of the Buffalo Museum of Science and Alberto's artisitic process in his examination of fifteen culturally or scientifically significant items from the museum's 750,000 items.
- Canadaway Creek: Western New York (2021)
A group of faculty from the State University of New York at Fredonia put together this publication to explore the flora, fauna, geology and history of Canadaway Creek which flows near the campus.
- Biological Regionalism: Oswego River and Lake Ontario, Central New York, USA. (2022) This exhibition publication looks at the history of the Oswego River watershed and the environmental challenges that affect the river and Lake Ontario.
- Atlas: Historical Work and Recent Journeys of Alberto Rey (2025) This exhibition publication investigates the over a hundred paintings and sketchbooks inspired by Alberto's and his wife's five month trip around the world in 2024.
